Travel time
Visitors to Fiji arrive at Nadi International Airport via Air Pacific or Air New Zealand, which have a variety of weekly flights from Los Angeles. Flying time from Los Angeles is approximately 10 hours non-stop. Fiji is 20 hours ahead of PST.

Documentation

Tropical. Warm brilliant sunshine. Can be rainy in the summer months, November through March. Year round, the climate is very hospitable. The average summer temperature (November – March) is approximately 85° F. The average winter temperature (June – September) is approximately 77° F.

Accommodations
Fijian accommodations are available for every taste and budget. At most private island resorts, your "room" will probably be a spacious, free-standing bure(bur-ey), a Fijian style thatched bungalow or villa. Many of these handsome bures are equipped with ceiling fans and have glass louvered windows that let in the sea breezes and the sounds of the waters

Activities
Fiji activites are plentiful. Activities include golf, tennis, horseback riding, bush walking, trek to a Fijian village, beach combing, and bird watching. Not far from land you can scuba dive, snorkel, kayak, water-ski, sail, take a Shotover Jet Boat ride, experience an exciting ride down the Navua River on a bilibili, or swim underneath waterfalls

What to Wear
Comfortable and casual. Light weight natural fibers like cotton are best. Bring a sweater for the cool evening breezes.

We recommend that you dress conservatively when visiting a local village or church. The traditional "sulu," a type of sarong, is often worn in the evening by both men and women.

Currency
The Fijian dollar. The Fijian dollar like most currencies moves against the US dollar. As a guide US50 cents = F$1.00, however check for current conversion rates prior to your trip for the most current rates.

Electricity
220 volts generally, however, you may find 110 volt outlets for electric shavers at many of the larger hotels. Most outlets are built to Australia/ New Zealand standards. Bring an adapter.

Tipping
Tipping is not a normal practice in Fiji. However, it is becoming more common for exceptional service.

Language
English is the predominant language in Fiji, although the Fijians and Indians speak their own languages as well.

Marriages
Marriages held in Fiji are legally recognized in the U.S.

Medical Facilities
Fiji has modern medical services, although not on par with the U.S., and is free of major tropical diseases, including Malaria. Therefore, no shots or any other pre-departure medical preparation is required.
