Fiji Islands: Taveuni Island
Known
as the Garden Island, Taveuni lies southeast of Vanua Levu and
is the third largest island in Fiji. Over half of the land is
rainforest, and the lushness and vegetation is breathtaking.
In the high mountains of Taveuni is a large lake that supplies
the village of Somosomo with their water supply. Somosomo Straits
off the coast of Taveuni has reefs that attract divers worldwide.
The soft coral of Rainbow Reef stretches between Vanua Levu
and Taveuni, providing spectacular sights to witness. Dive shops
abound, catering to both the novice and experienced divers.
The area of Waitavala has a large rock water slide and is a
favorite of local children and adults alike. At the southern
end of the island by Navakawau Village (meaning "end of the
road") is where Matamaiqi Blowhole is located, with geysers
created by trade winds crashing into the volcanic rocks.
