
Tahiti Islands: Marquesas
Often referred to as "the most remote islands in the world,"
these mysterious tropical islands are dominated by majestic
volcanic peaks rising from the depths of the ocean floor. Rocky
cliffs encircle most of the exotic islands, so beaches are few
and far between. Be prepared the islands don't feature your
typical white sand beaches as seen in most of the islands in
French Polynesia. Often, land is often only accessible by small
bays. Traveling around the mountainous terrain is a challenging
and interesting activity, since there is no highway and no road

history and lore, and many of its inhabitants practice the ancient

are the islands chosen by artist Paul Gauguin to live out his
final years. His simple grave is at a cemetery in the village
